It's a Saturday edition show that got extremely delayed in getting put up due to matters out of my control. This week's PAX interview is with Dan Teasdale, Senior Designer at Harmonix about Rock Band and the drum peripheral. A Gamestop manager enacts a "Games for Grades" policy and then gets suspended for enacting it. FASA Studios, the developers of Shadowrun, closed their doors much to nobody's surprise. (It then evolves into discussion about Halo 3's marketing campaign.) At their Pre-TGS conference, Microsoft announced that Rez, Ikaruga, and Braid are coming to Xbox Live Arcade. Gamerdad Andrew Bub suffered from a Heart Attack, and if you have anything to spare, please visit Gamerdad.com and support the family. Then Kropotkin calls in to discuss the PSP Cheap...I mean the PSP Slim. And then we take a call about Jam Sessions and Drawn to Life - two DS games that will be discussed on the next show once Gamefly delivers them. The next show will also be on a Saturday due to travel commitments.
Con season is finally over - we reminisce about PAX and Dragon*con. This week's interview is with Adam Carpenter, lead designer for Fury, where you can get your PvP on in a big money tournament this month. While at PAX, we took a look at Halo ActionClix from Wizkids. We also saw King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters and, while it may be inaccurate, it's still a very well-made film. The show was taped on the birthday of the Dreamcast, and we look back at 9-9-99 and then look to the sad present. SEGA of Japan is discontinuing hardware support of the Dreamcast. But, two new games are coming out for the system by an independent developer. In the present generation, Factor Five have sent out reviewers guides to Lair, as if they had never played a video game before. Then, we take calls about Metroid Prime 3, Apple getting into the gaming industry, and then are reminded that the original Playstation also launched on this day. Then, we relay a story about the founder of America's Videogame Expo getting drunk at PAX and getting kicked out after hitting on the volunteers that run the show. The next two weeks will have shows live on SATURDAYS at 8PM ET/5PM PT due to personal commitments.
In a rare pre-recorded show from a hotel room at Dragon*con, we bring you two audio segments. First, Expansion Lead Designer Ben Miller talks about the new Guild Wars: Eye of the North expansion from the Penny Arcade Expo. Then, Bobby Blackwolf joins Jeremiah Lynch from Pulp Gamer, Sam Chupp from The Bear's Grove, and Jim Van Verth from The Vintage Gamer on a panel about Podcasting for Games and Gamers, moderated by Swoopy from Skepticality. All video game specific content is in the first 12 minutes.
Bobby Blackwolf brings in Luke Stapely from Game Addict Hotline, GamerAndy from the Virtual World, NamelessTed from Destructoid and ChatterBox Video Game Radio, Tom Kim from GDC Radio, and Chris Grant from Joystiq over to our little table outside the press room to discuss PAX, what it was, and what it wasn't. We also speculate on E For All (they were spamming PAX) as well as discuss the rumor that Bioshock is confirmed for the PS3 because of a config file in the PC version of the game. Then we learn what the final game of the Omegathon was and Chris Grant immediately goes into blogger mode and runs off.
What's this? A show on a Friday? Live? From another venue? It is! GamerAndy from GamerAndy.com and Luke Stapely from Game Addict Hotline joins Bobby Blackwolf an hour before the 2007 Penny Arcade Expo opens to discuss what we want to see at the coming show. Includes cameos from Lord Moon of the Allgames forums and a developer for Street Trace: NYC.
