This week's show features a live interview with Kropotkin to discuss the PAL PS3 launch, as well as GDC interviews with the creators of IGF Finalists FizzBall and Toblo. But first, we were wrong last week about background downloading on the PS3 (which is a good thing in this case). We also discuss Folding@home briefly and invite you to join Team #57280 (the All Games Radio team). There's a PC demo download that's been going around called Puzzle Quest - sadly it's not available for purchase on the PC but it IS available for the DS and PSP. We discuss the PAL launches which include free TV's to all and viral marketing on behalf of Microsoft. Sony's UK boss then slams the competition by saying that the PS3 skipped over the next-generation and is really next-next-generation. During the Toblo interview (complete with many sound effects from the game sprinkled in) we get a first look at the DS title "Drawn To Life" by 5TH Cell. Then we take calls about how long the PS2 will last and about the dying of exclusives and the reaction to the announcement that Final Fantasy XIII's exclusitivity is in question.
This week we have interviews with Frozen North Productions about a new MMO that is described as "World of Warcraft Meets Mathematica." We also have an interview with NeuroSky to discuss using brainwaves as a gameplay mechanic. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles came out on the Xbox Live Arcade - who liked it, who didn't? We take a quick look at MotorStorm and who Sony decided was more important in terms of multiplayer. We spoil some release dates from our buddies at Orange Lounge Radio - Halo 3 (which can cost an arm and a leg) and Beautiful Katamari! God of War 3 has been announced as being on the PS3 and including vibration support. Also, the upcoming 1.60 Firmware update for the PS3 adds a few features that gamers wanted, but not exactly. No callers this week, but we read an email about GDC and discuss the public getting into E3 and CES via the chat room. I had a great time at Podcamp Atlanta at Emory University this past weekend - unconferences are awesome.
Fresh off of the red-eye flight from San Francisco, we discuss our initial GDC impressions. However, we are first corrected via email that there is no clear-cut winner in the HD-DVD/Blu-Ray format war. We discuss Miyamoto's keynote at the Game DEVELOPERS Conference and talk about why GAMERS weren't happy with it. Then we discuss PS Home and why there's something finally REALLY good to talk about when it comes to the PS3. Then we announce the winners of the 2007 Independent Games Festival. We also briefly discuss other products we saw at GDC and will go into more detail on in future shows, as well as taking calls about GDC and about Fable 2.
We start off by waxing poetically about old videotapes found of E3's gone by, and about the video already up on Youtube showing Nintendo's face mapping technology in 2003. Coming up this week is the Game Developers Conference, and the big rumor is that Sony will announce something called "PS Home" which is a combination of Achievements, Mii's, and 2K Sports' Cribs. However, posting this rumor got a respected gaming site in trouble! Sony seems to be ready to rumble by settling the force feedback patent dispute with Immersion. Datel has released a mass-market Nintendo DS cart to allow for easy access to DS homebrew. GameTap has launched their GameTap Indies label and will give three development studios contracts at the upcoming GDC. And speaking of the Independent Games Festival, we take a loot at four more entries: Armadillo Run, Blast Miner, Bone: The Great Cow Race, and Fizz Ball. Which one completely stole our attention away from the other three? See you at GDC!
We attempted to purchase something from the PlayStation Store, but it was such a hassle - but we just kept with the fl0w and were finally successful. This week, a demo for PC RTS Supreme Commander came out - did it run on our hardware and did we like it? Nintendo is adding two new consoles to the Virtual Console service in Japan. Sony is gimping the European PS3's by taking out the PS1 and PS2 hardware that assisted in backwards compatability. We then take a look at some of the nominees for the 2007 Independent Game Festival including: Bubble Islands, Gamma Bros, Samorost2, Toribash, Toblo, Racing Pitch, and Roboblitz. More titles to be looked at next week! We also took calls about the PS3 backwards compatability and Supreme Commander.
