We've launched some new blogs on Allgames.com, including our XNA blog...You should go check them out! Microsoft made some announcements at CES, however not about a new unit. They did demo two things - IPTV, which isn't as cool once you learn the details - and Vista gaming. New Gears of War content is out, and it's free - and also fixes some bugs in ranked matches. Castlevania broke a lot of barriers back in the day, and it is doing so again by going over the filesize limit on Xbox Live Arcade. Sony has patched their demo of Gran Turismo HD Concept. They've also announced that they will port six Midway titles to the PS3 with full online capabilities. Kaz Hirai spoke at CES about the issues with the PS3, and claims that nobody has done a worldwide launch successfully except for one company who only did a "mild upgrade" to their console, therefore it doesn't count. Good luck in getting Wii Play - Gamestop and EB have already halted preorders! Then we take calls about the Wii, PS3, a Gamestop ad, Zelda, and the need to have a boxed copy of downloaded content.
Happy New Year! Star Trek Legacy is bad, even for Trekkers, but Rayman's Raving Rabbids is surprisingly fun multiplayer. How hard is it to find a PS3 these days? And if you have one, what games can you play on it? The GamePro Expo is now called the "E For All" Expo, and carries a hefty $100 price tag for what is really a glorified EBGames. Rumors have leaked about a new Xbox 360 featuring an HDMI port, and was expected to be announced at CES. (Note: This show was done before the Microsoft keynote - we now know that no such 360 was announced.) Super Columbine Massacre RPG has been pulled out of the Slamdance Guerrilla Gamemaker Competition based on moral reasons - is the game too edgy for the edgy indie festival? We get emails about unbeatable games and analysts talking out of their anal vortexes with regards to Bully and Left Behind: Eternal Forces. Then, we get calls about the fall of Sonic, the fall of E3, and the rise of XNA. Be sure to check out Bobby Blackwolf on both Orange Lounge Radio's 2006 End Of Year show and XBL Radio's XNA Roundtable in Version 34.5!
In a special extended-length Free Play Friday edition of the The Bobby Blackwolf Show, Blackwolf is joined by All Games Radio's Kropotkin and Hendrix for a look back at the year 2006 month by month. What rumors turned out to be false? What rumors turned out to be true? Do we really have it in for Sony, or did they earn their reputation each month? Can we work any more inside jokes from other All Games programs into the show? It's two and a half hours of reflection and looking forward to what 2007 will bring us. Happy new year - don't blow yourselves up! We will be back on our normal schedule (and length) on January 8th.
In a special Saturday night edition of the show, we run just a tad long - sorry about that! We continue with some more programmer-geek talk about XNA Game Studio Express, and who it's really aimed for right now. We then talk a little bit about Elebits, the Forecast Channel, and the Internet Channel on the Wii. We also talk about the new Virtual Console games coming on Christmas Day and wonder where people thought they would be "free." A class action lawsuit has already been filed against Nintendo over the wrist straps - will lawsuits to replace damaged TV's come next? Microsoft has extended the Xbox 360 warranty for all customers. Also, Gears of War was surprisingly knocked off of the top spot of the sales charts by a certain trio of games! Sony is releasing Gran Turismo HD Concept in America on Christmas Eve, but are we now seeing the Death of the Exclusive? Mayor Young from All Games Interactive calls in to discuss exclusives, Mr. Awesome vs. Twin Galaxies, and the Fantastic Forum comic podcast. Why not Digg us in their new podcasting section? We'll be back on Friday, December 29th, with our 2006 Year in Review show featuring Kropotkin and Hendrix.
While other people were excited about what others will do with the XNA Creators Club on the Xbox 360, we were delving in to see what WE could do with it. We talk about how in just a few hours we recreated the exact same card game experience from Windows 3.1 - but in 720p widescreen. The golden age of gaming has arrived! We follow up on last week's story about the U.S. Copyright Office's exemption for abandonware, this time courtesy of someone who actually knows what he's talking about. Nintendo is offering to replace the wrist straps of the Wii Remotes - will they get blamed in lawsuits now, and are their commercials to blame in the first place? The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is also getting into the act by overseeing Nintendo's efforts to rectify the situation. But even with the console being dangerous, Blue Dragon for the Xbox 360 outsold all Wii titles - including Zelda! Sony franchises are leaving the Land of the Cell - Dragon Quest IX is confirmed to be on the DS, and is Metal Gear Solid 4 leaving for the 360? Microsoft added a bunch of games (including Psychonauts) to the 360's Backwards Compatability list, and we touch on the current Youtube-inspired flap over the PS3's lack of filtering on it's backwards compatability. (Hint: It's for real.) Then we take some calls about the PS3 and about the SpikeTV's Video Game Awards.
