This week's interview is with Stephen Granade, organizer of the 12th Annual Interactive Fiction Competition. We discuss how Interactive Fiction has evolved since the days of Zork, and what it takes to be a game designer in this medium. We also talk about why people who attended Dragon*con would most likely recognize him! We give some more advice on which system to get this holiday season (hint: it's all about the games) and then discuss the Guitar Hero II demo and TotemBall. We then talk about the biggest story (to us) that is full of awesome and win: Burger King selling Xbox/Xbox 360 games for $3.99 with the purchase of a value meal. Is this type of advergaing effective? Looks like it! We then disclose - again - that the Wii is based off of the Gamecube architecture. Apparently we're supposed to hate it now, but a special caller calms our fears. For those still buying a Wii, we have the official prices for both the retailer and the consumer for the console, some accessories, and some games. And lastly, even though Sony already says that Europe is not a part of the world, they now say that Europe doesn't care if they are or not...Uhh, what?
Sonic the Hedgehog got our Worst Game of E3 nod, was it warranted? DOOM has been released for Xbox Live Arcade at a whopping 800 points...Is THAT warranted? Guitar Hero II has been officially announced for the Xbox 360...Is buying a new guitar warranted? PS3 game prices have been shown to be the same as Xbox 360 game prices in the US, ending unwarranted speculation about game prices from Japan carrying across the sea. Some politicans want the ESRB to complete every single game before they rate it...Is that warranted? A listener sent us some audio feedback on our thoughts on the Wii...Are his comments warranted? Are you tired of us using warranted for every story? (Aren't you glad you read these summaries?) Nintendo of Canada claims that there will be one million Wii's available in North America on launch day. Also, the Opera web browser will be free until June 2007. And finally, allegedly Nintendo of Europe has leaked information that online friend codes are attached to the Wii, not to accounts of users. Bobby Blackwolf will be a guest on XPlatform from Game Addict Hotline this coming week - check for it! Also, All Games Radio would like to welcome Game Addict Hotline and Evil Avatar Radio to the family!
Our first housecleaning comes with some corrections about a story from last week, and that some people are apparently upset with our bias over Nintendo, but declined to say WHY. We also talk a little bit about the Xbox 360 Vision camera and if it's a good buy, and how you can use some of the features of it without purchasing it. Sony's the big story of this week's Tokyo Game Show, we look at what they announced at their press conference. We also discuss the multiple versions of Gran Turismo: HD and the future of microtransactions. And hey, the PS3 will cure cancer during it's downtime! The Xbox 360 WILL have 1080P capability via a software update, and find out what you can and can't do with component cables. Defective 360's from 2005 WILL be fixed for free, according to Microsoft. Nintendo has decided that the majority of their launch titles will be capped at two players - where's the four player love? Link is left handed, but since Twilight Princess is on the Wii, they have mirrored all of the levels for the Wii and Gamecube versions to make him right handed. MTV acquires Harmonix, developers of Guitar Hero, just after Activision announced that Guitar Hero was coming to "every signifigant new format." GDC is about to grow large...Is this a good thing?
This week we interview Josh Sawyer, lead designer of Neverwinter Nights 2, at Dragon*con to talk about NWN2. We got some cold hard facts about the Wii! Finalii! Price, release date, Mii, accessories...Is it all peachy? And of course, it will be region free...No it won't...Yes it will...No it won't...Make up your minds, Nintendo! Want to preorder one? We discuss a leaked promotion from Gamestop/EB about the hoops that you'll have to jump through to preorder one...And it's not even guarunteed by Christmas! Microsoft is being sued over Xbox Live, as some company waited 4 years to discover that they were infringing on their patents. And Sony has announced the distribution percenatges of the Dumbass and the OK PS3 systems. Video Games Live is coming to the Hollywood Bowl, and we play a preview of one of the new additions to the concert.
We're back from Dragon*con, and we have an interview with DJ Tarryk of Gridstream Productions talking about internet radio within Anarchy Online. It winds up that All Your Soccer Are NOT Belong To Microsoft, thanks to some misunderstandings between Microsoft and Konami. But that's okay, we find out that Europe really isn't a part of the world when it comes to a Sony Worldwide Launch. And even Sony agrees that their hardware is in decline. But they're launching a classic game download service, so it's not all bad...right? Don't worry, the Wii is okay, and will still ship 6 million units by the end of March. That's because Joystiq overhyped a story about chips from IBM so much that they fired one of their writers. There's been a security breach in Second Life...Is it time for Third Life? Tim Schafer's Double Fine Productions is joining up with Sierra...If you don't think that's weird, you're not old enough. And finally, Sam and Max return to Gametap in October.
