180-181 - 01/11/09-01/18/09 Bobby Blackwolf Show - Console Attack Ads, Lots Of Goodbyes
posted on January 25, 2009 at 04:58 PM in The Bobby Blackwolf Show

In the first episode: UGO purchased 1up and 30 former 1up staffers lost their jobs, including one All Games Radio alum, and Electronic Gaming Monthly is no more. Bob, creator of Bob's Game, goes insane waiting for Nintendo to approve his SDK request. Georgia-based action MMO Global Agenda is starting to accept closed beta applications. Sony releases an ad (press release) touting how much of a better deal the top-tier PS3 is than the low-tier Xbox 360. Then we take calls about 1up, EGM, and Bob's Game. In the second episode, we say goodbye to many things: The Gamerscore Blog was shut down by Microsoft. This was recorded before Microsoft announced the massive layoffs, so we still assumed that the team would stay employed. Circuit City is liquidating the rest of their stores. Age of Conan is closing half of their servers. Gametap is getting rid of many games from their free service, enticing people to subscribe. Then we take calls about Nintendo not being on Gametap, Community outreach from the console companies, and what games we play when we're trying to relax.

179 - 01/04/09 Bobby Blackwolf Show - Persona 4, Korg DS-10
posted on January 11, 2009 at 07:01 PM in The Bobby Blackwolf Show

We give our review of Persona 4 and tell you what other reviews won't - the length of the intro. Yes, it's that important. Then we do hands-on impressions of the Korg DS-10 Synthesizer for the DS. A company is kicking NCSoft while they're down by suing them - they claim that they have a patent for base MMO technology and NCSoft is the first victim. Game collectors are unhappy about the console companies offering their rare high-priced gems as a cheap download, devaluing their collection. We take calls about that topic, the crappiness of the Guitar Hero: World Tour drumset, and our new project, Friday Night Gaming.

178 - 12/28/08 Bobby Blackwolf Show - 2008 Year In Review With SHFTS Crew
posted on December 31, 2008 at 01:05 PM in The Bobby Blackwolf Show

It's the traditional year end review show where we go through 2008 month-by-month to discuss what was said, promised, and delivered, along with highlighting the travesties of the year. Bobby Blackwolf is joined by Kropotkin, Hendrix, and Bloodshot of the Superhappyfuntimeshow in this extra-length episode. Happy new year - here's hoping to an even better 2009!

176-177 - 12/14/08-12/21/08 Bobby Blackwolf Show - PS Home, Console Repairs, SBCG4AP Review
posted on December 28, 2008 at 06:03 PM in The Bobby Blackwolf Show

In the first episode: We give our review on the last three episodes of Strong Bad's Cool Game For Attractive People, as well as early impressions on Wario Land: Shake It. The PlayStation Home Public Beta began, and we discussed if people were looking at Home in the wrong way. Brutal Legend finally gets a publisher. The Wii dominated hardware sales in November, but who dominated software? Our music break is from Doctor Octoroc's 8-bit Jesus. Then we take a call about how reviews should be made from the standpoint of "this is the only game I can play all year" and that parents are too dumb to find IGN or Gamespot therefore those sites shouldn't review children's games. In the second episode: Microsoft knew about the 360's disc scratching issue before the console launched, however decided to place warning stickers on the console rather than spend the money to fix the problem in the design. CC Gaming, our partner for the new show Friday Night Gaming, apparently fixed 127,000 PS3's in one day by isolating a software bug and forwarding their findings to Sony. Then we play a four-month old voicemail asking what game you missed out on this holiday season. We take calls on that topic as well as missed games, used games, and why parents are smarter than a specific caller thinks.

175 - 12/07/08 Bobby Blackwolf Show - Spyro, AC/DC, GH:OT Decades Reviews, PC Bugs and Piracy
posted on December 12, 2008 at 11:10 PM in The Bobby Blackwolf Show

We begin with reviews of three games: The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon, AC/DC Live Rock Band Track Pack, and Guitar Hero: On Tour: Decades. We also give early impressions of Spider-Man: Web of Shadows and Chrono Trigger DS. We look into the "most pirated" games of 2008 and what it may mean for the industry. Grand Theft Auto 4 for the PC is so buggy, Valve is issuing refunds over Steam. Our intermission music is from Weapon of Choice and is by Hamdija Ajanovic. Then we take calls about PC Gaming. We also announce Bobby Blackwolf's latest project: Friday Night Gaming, an internet television show from the Computer ArenA in Roswell, GA beginning in 2009. All of the details are inside, followed by a distraught call from a "first time caller!"
